A lesson during thunderstorm

Great opportunity to teach Colin about lightning and thunder today!

He was very afraid of the roaring thunder the last time it poured this heavily. I knew I had to do something.
We were playing in his playroom when it thundered non-stop. He ran to me with a terrified look everytine he heard the roar. I thought he could anticipate the thunder and brave through the roars better if he saw the lightning.

So I turned off the light, carried him, ensured he faced the window, and waited for lightning. I said "This is lightning" each time it flashed, followed by "Thunder is coming! Bom bom bom!".

After a few rounds, I had him seated on my lap, hugged him and said the same lightning thunder lines. Sometimes I asked, "What comes after lightning?" so he can link them together.

After another few rounds, I released him from my hugs. Then progressed to him being able to point to window when lightning struck. Further to him being able to get away from me and come back before the next thunder.

Hope he remembers this lesson the next time it thunderstorms!
